trauma drama
12 hours.
i think i saw it all today at work.
a man dying and his WAILING family, a massive GI bleed, people yelling and screaming (sometimes at me), patients completely confused, 2 intubations, tons of foleys, a blood glucose level so high the machine couldn't read it, a 740 lb man, stitches, 2 assalts, one being an elderly woman who was beat up in her home unfound for over 24 hours, a case of bell's palsy...i saw how chronic drinking will completely destroy your liver and kill you. i learned how to differentiate between a stroke and bell's palsy. i saw more blood today than i cared to see (i honestly usually dont see that much). no telling what kind of infections i was exposed to today. i guess im building (or destroying) my immune system.
and my favorite case: a woman was confused and just kept repeatedly saying that she wanted a gift. her son kept reminding her of the gift of salvation purchased by Christ, his atonement and our forgiveness. amen. it was a gentle reminder amidst all the chaos of the emergency room today, that the LORD is sovereign.
